My teaching career
My teaching career started in the summer of 2019, where I completed my CELTA course and I had to pass another exam in Malta to be able to begin teaching. During that summer I had my first experience with teenagers and children where it was challenging as I had to come up with my own lessons and had little support. Regardless, I was still able to teach classes where I had students of different ages and on different levels.
I then moved on to another school where I had the opportunity to teach adults and teenagers from all over the world, from Colombia, to Finland and to Japan. Teaching more than 15 different nationalities gave me a better understanding on how students can perceive English.
In 2020, Covid struck Malta where I had to learn how to teach online. The experience is quite different from teaching face to face and it was new. But a few lessons in I managed to keep the lessons interesting. I also had summer camps that year.
In 2021 and 2022, I decided to take my first step out of the country and Poland was my first destination. My job was teaching at a school where students wanted to learn English after school so lessons were in the evenings. This was the first time I had the opportunity to teach students for 2 scholastic years. This is where I had the opportunity to write reports about each student and watch them improve their English.
In the scholastic year of 2022 – 2023, I decided to move to Slovakia. Teaching here, I had the opportunity to have 2 teaching jobs and to learn more about young learners as I taught at 2 different schools. This was quite a challenge as children lack certain behaviours adults have, but it is always up to the teachers to make the lessons interesting and fun for students. I also had the opportunity to teach Business English where I taught at companies for example ŽSR, the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic, Swiss Re and many more.
